The word “inauguration” is vibrating in my brain. Inauguration, inauguration. Such a strange word; it doesn’t really flow easily off the tongue. I wondered if the word “augur” was the root of the word, and found that indeed it is. “Augur” is a divination, an omen, or a forecast. So not only is an inauguration just a “formal induction into office”* or “a formal beginning or introduction”*, but interwoven with the meaning of inauguration is looking to the future.
This is a momentous, historic day. It’s the beginning of a new era, a time for hope for better days ahead. What are your hopes for yourself? For your community? Your nation? And the planet?
